Physical & Emotional Impact
Hormones can affect the body in several different ways, so the falling levels of estrogen and progestogen that occur at the time of the menopause may trigger a number of different symptoms. These may be physical, such as hot flushes and sweating, or emotional, such as depression and anxiety.
The physical impact of menopausal symptoms can be tiring and uncomfortable and you may find some of the symptoms embarrassing. As a result, you may find it more difficult to socialise and complete daily tasks, or have difficulty in concentrating while you are at work.
Many women find the impact of physical symptoms of the menopause difficult to deal with. You may feel anxious and unhappy and not your normal self. Disturbances in sleep commonly occur as a result of night sweats, which can often lead to insomnia. This may leave you feeling tired, irritable and prone to mood swings, which can be distressing for you and your family.
